For example, rather
than completing the required 12 hours of Related Courses,
the Spanish major could take 12 hours of French (6 hours at
the Intermediate level and 6 at the 200 level). Likewise, in
lieu of the Related courses requirement in French, the
French major would substitute 12 hours of Spanish (6 at the
Intermediate and 6 at the 200-level, divided between
Peninsular and Spanish-America).
A major in Romance
languages leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree consists
of at least 33 credits as follows: (Students should consult
the University Catalogue for an up-to-date description of
major requirements)
1. Completion of the
core courses for either the French major or the Spanish
major
2. Completion of the
intermediate level or its equivalent in a second Romance
language (French 162, 164, or Spanish 162, 164)
3. Six credits in the
second language as follows:
a. if French, French
261 and one course chosen from French 273, 280, 281, and 282
b. if Spanish, a
Peninsular course and a Spanish-American course, at least
one of which must be a literature course. Complete one of
the following three sequences: Spanish 207 and 208; Spanish
207 and 211; Spanish 208 and 212
Romance language
majors need not complete the “related courses” requirement
of either the French major or the Spanish major.
